How to use them correctly
The decisive thing is word order. After weil, obwohl, wenn, während the verb goes to the end of the clause. After deshalb, trotzdem, deswegen the verb goes in second position, that is, right after. And und, aber, oder, denn do not change the word order. When writing you apply this directly, more on this in connectors in telc writing. Linking words like “sondern” are also important in negation.
