FAQ About the telc B1 Exam
How is the telc B1 exam structured?
The telc B1 exam consists of two parts: a written section (reading comprehension, language elements, listening comprehension, and writing) lasting approximately 2.5 hours, and an oral section lasting around 15 minutes. One important advantage: stronger results in some sections can compensate for weaker results in others — you do not have to pass every section individually.
How many points do I need to pass?
A total of 300 points can be achieved. You need at least 60% (180 points) to pass. In the written exam section, you must score at least 135 points, and in the oral exam section, at least 45 points.
How much does the telc B1 exam cost?
The telc B1 exam costs between €180 and €250, depending on the examination center. If you retake individual parts of the exam, the cost is between €100 and €180. Preparation with HeyFlinko is separate from these fees — and only a fraction of the exam cost (see pricing above).
Where can I take the telc B1 exam?
In Germany, there are licensed telc examination centers — usually language schools, adult education centers (Volkshochschulen), or BAMF integration course providers. You can find the nearest examination center in your area on telc.net.
How much time should I plan for preparation?
This depends entirely on your current level of knowledge. Based on our experience, you should plan around 3 months for preparation. Your preparation time also depends on the waiting time until your exam date.
What is the difference between telc B1 and Goethe B1?
Both correspond to the same CEFR level B1 and are accepted for naturalization. The telc B1 exam is divided into 2 exam parts, while the Goethe B1 exam consists of 4 modules. telc is usually cheaper and has an overall exam advantage. More in the detailed comparison.
