You learn German in many ways, alone or in a course. Both work, but not equally well for everyone. Here you find out what suits you.
Self-study or course: what suits you?
How ready are you really?
Your Ready-Score shows you in a mock exam where you stand today. Free, no risk.
Self-study is flexible and inexpensive but requires a lot of discipline and self-organisation. A course gives you structure, feedback, exchange and a fixed rhythm, but costs more and ties you to fixed times. Often a mixture is ideal, for example a course plus your own practice. What matters is to honestly assess how you learn best. A structure for both is given by creating a study plan.
When which option?
- Self-study, if you are disciplined and want to stay flexible.
- A course, if you need structure, correction and a group.
So that you stay on track, staying motivated helps, with vocabulary learning vocabulary effectively, and your starting point is in assessing your German level.
Combining both with preparation
How the exam runs is shown on the page on the telc B1 exam.
The bottom line
Self-study or a course is a question of your learning type. Whoever has discipline learns well alone, whoever needs structure in a course. A mixture combines the advantages.
