Start preparing

In total you can score 300 points, split into a written and an oral part. In each you need roughly 60 percent:

  • Written part: 225 points, of which you need about 135.
  • Oral part: 75 points, of which you need about 45.

Both parts are scored separately. So it is not enough to have enough points overall, you have to pass each part on its own. How the points are distributed across the individual tasks is shown in the overview of the four parts, and a detailed description is on the page on the exam sections.

Where points are most often lost

Experience shows that many candidates lose points in writing and in the language elements (Sprachbausteine), which are noticeably more demanding at B2 level. That is exactly where targeted practice pays off. We collect the typical pitfalls in the most common mistakes, and how exam day runs is in the telc B2 exam procedure. For a full overview, see the page on the telc B2 exam.

The bottom line

To pass, you need around 60 percent of the points in each part. Once you know where the points sit, you can invest your time where it brings the most.
